New wireless sensor networks solution announced at M2M Europe Conference
27.10.2004
At the first European M2M Conference (held in London, UK) co-located with BuilConn Europe, speakers discussed the benefits of connecting mobile assets and equipment to the Internet to improve productivity, reduce downtime and costs of ownership. Among keynote speakers were Sony Ericsson, Cisco, IBM and Harbour research. Luxoft Labs presented a wireless sensor networks technology and vision on deploying ZigBee standards in building automation and commercial vehicles monitoring applications enabling new M2M applications and best-in-class solutions. Wireless sensor motes connected to ZigBee compliant devices help to gather intelligence about company assets. Our technologies based on built in intelligence, both minimises the cost of monitoring and maintenance and reduces the complexity of data processing. There are industries that are conservative when it comes to new technology adoption. However, the pragmatic view on cost savings coming from eliminating cable cost and relevant services have been the major argument for the early adopters. Conference participants showed their interest in deploying ZigBee as a standardised and therefore, more cost-effective solution for wireless sensor networks applications. With ZigBee today, OEM’s can monitor and stay connected with their assets and provide exceptional customer service. For the first time equipment manufacturers can establish a closer relationship with their customers and get a better understanding of the performance of their equipment in the field. Moreover, it simplifies considerably the job of system integrators and makes it more predictable and profitable.
