Asset Tracking
Companies that have extremely valuable on-the-go assets have a vested interest in knowing exactly where those assets are at all times. Tracking these mobile containers can be an expensive proposition that companies have no choice but to accept. Many companies use manual tracking methods that drain resources and elevate supply chain costs without delivering the best reliability. RFID represents a mobile asset management upgrade over manual methods, providing technology that not only tracks containers, but collects critical data that can be used for in-depth mobile asset analysis.
IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee wireless standard have taken RFID functionality and improved upon it, offering a more sophisticated mode of asset tracking. Using ZigBit modules, asset tracking can take advantage of best-in-class sensitivity, farthest range and low power consumption. Additionally, ZigBit modules come with a comprehensive software package, including the networking stack to enable ZigBee applications. The networking stack software allows the module-based wireless sensor devices to form self-healing, self-organizing mesh networks. ZigBee’s ease of implementation means that streamlined asset tracking systems can be achieved quickly at a low cost – and ZigBit’s low power consumption means that the network requires little maintenance. Empowered by ZigBee’s advanced data collection capabilities, asset tracking systems improve supply chain performance, streamline business processes, reduce tracking costs, and reduce container loss and damage.
